  • Liquid-filled compass
  • Ribbing on the bezel offers a secure grip
  • Deluxe Pro Compass features a tilt potential of +/- 30°
  • Easy-to-read high contrast numbers with side-window
  • Low profile depth compensating bungee mount

The professional grade Deluxe Pro Compass features a tilt potential of +/- 30°. The liquid-filled compass has a phosphorescent compass card with fast accurate response and a large side reading window. The firm grip bezel, offering very easy-to-read large high contrast numerals with a ratchet at every fifth degree, is smooth turning in all conditions. Includes a low profile depth compensating bungee mount plus the bungee (aka shock cord). Available in versions balanced for either the Northern Hemisphere or the Southern Hemisphere.

Quality analog compasses have the compass card balanced on a needlepoint spindle, however a strong enough g-force impact on the compass body can knock the card off the spindle rendering the compass useless. The Pro Compass, with its larger body and increased tilt potential, is therefore more sensitive and requires additional caution to protect the compass from g-force impact.

Is the best compass I used. Very easy to read also in muddy water. I paid for transport and italian duties the same price of the compass but I'm equally glad of the purchase.

This compass works ok. The bezel and face have useful markings. Bungee mount is nice but it impossible to get the compass out of it. The compass is made of cheap plastic and feels very flimsy. If you tilt the compass excessively the float will come off the center pin and it is a real pain to get it back on. All around not recommended for high surf shore diving.

I looked at a lot of compasses and read a ton of reviews. The DGX Deluxe Pro was not only the best bang for the buck, but just the best period. I especially like the large side window. I am a bit geographically challenged, especially diving lakes where the bottom is featureless and essentially flat. I will now be much more confident in navagating back to shore without having to surface and look around. It will also make finding my way to features and returning to a mooring or anchor line far easier.

I purchased both this compass and the DGX Tech Compass at the same time because I was worried that the Tech Compass wouldn't work well when slightly tilted. To my surprise, the Tech Compass works great, so I was going to return this one. However, after playing around with it, I decided to keep it because I really like the bold black North arrow on the card and find that, when using the side window, I can see the card much more clearly – an important feature for me on navigation heavy dives. Plus, the price that I paid for both compasses is what I would have paid for just 1 of the other brand that I used to use, and I didn't have to purchase the wrist mount bungees separately!

Compass Balance Zones

High quality analog compasses are designed for use within a certain area of the globe because the earths magnetic field not only varies horizontally, but also vertically, causing the needle to dip downward when the case is held level. The compass needle card is balanced with a small weight to counteract the downward dip, so the needle card does not drag or stick on the top or bottom of the capsule. If you take any compass to a significantly different part of the globe than where it was balanced, check the compass carefully before relying upon it. Our technical diving compasses are balanced either for the Northern Hemisphere or the Southern Hemisphere

Note that digital compasses, like the ones becoming popular in dive computers, do not have balance zones. Digital compasses are universal because they have a user 'calibration' feature, which is performed in the region where the diver plans to use the compass. A change in region simply requires a recalibration before use in a different location.
