Double AL-80's are a value priced solution for light open water technical diving, and when configured as left and right singles are extremely popular for sidemount. A typical hogarthian equipment backmount configuration is these 7.25-inch diameter aluminum cylinders with a DIR harness, steel backplate, wing and a wetsuit. Many divers also like to add a V Trim Weight to aluminum doubles. A complete Double Cylinder Package from Dive Gear Express consists of: two cylinders, premium quality manifold with isolator, premium quality bands and bolts, left and right manifold port plugs. The cylinders each include a current month Nitrox Ready decal.

  • Premium Quality Manifold with Isolator
  • Premium Quality Bands and Bolts
  • Left and Right Manifold Port Plugs (not shown)
  • Current Nitrox Ready Decal †

† Our shop evidence of inspection 3" X 6" dated decal (aka "VIP sticker") states "this cylinder and valve are suitable for service with compressed gases containing greater than 23.5% oxygen." That means the cylinder and valve, prior to initial use, are oxygen clean and oxygen compatible. If you plan to use this cylinder with gases containing more than 40% oxygen then the upgrade to our DGX Premium Oxygen Valve is suggested.

Due to weight restrictions our doubles packages ship as individual components ready-to-assemble: two cartons containing the cylinders with modular valves (including port plugs) installed in the cylinders hand tight along with a third carton containing the manifold crossbar, bands and bolt kit, two loose Evidence of Inspection decals (aka VIP stickers.). You will need to assemble the package yourself prior to filling or if you prefer arrange for a local dive shop to assemble them for a fee. Assembling a set of doubles yourself is easy if you follow our detailed assembly instructions.

Quick and just as expected!

One of the things I love about DGX is their super fast processing times! This set of doubles and manifold were marked as shipped within 18 hours from purchase, and showed up at my home 1300 miles away just a few days later with no dings, issues, or otherwise! The tanks are exactly as you would expect. They came shipped with VIP stickers and manifold and bands. I've already had them filled and logged some bottom time! Thanks DGX! I'll be sure to stop in next time I make it to South Florida!

The price is unbeatable even with the Thermo manifold option. I bought these for ocean diving for which they have worked very well. In my opinion, these are preferable for salt water and the LP85 doubles are preferable for fresh water. If you can choose only one and your funds are not unlimited, then these are a very good choice. It will probably take some tuning to dial in the trim - they have more of a tendency to be head-heavy then the LP85s. I say this having dove both the AL80s and the LP85s in a drysuit. It may be very different in a wetsuit.

Phenomenal price and this doubles package is fantastic. UPS kept damaging my tanks and DGX stood by me and send me several replacements until we could get a pair through with no damages. Cannot say enough about their customer service and quality of products.

Aluminum Cylinders at Dive Gear Express

Features of All Aluminum SCUBA Tanks
from Dive Gear Express

  • Manufactured in North America
  • 6061 alloy, an aluminum-magnesium-silicon blend
  • Both U.S. DOT-3AL and Canadian TC-3ALM markings
  • 0.750-14 NPSM (3/4 NPS) threaded neck opening
  • Cylinder and valve are Nitrox Ready

How to Select a SCUBA Tank

Our factual but easy-to-read article helps you make this big decision by giving you information on:

  • Aluminum tanks versus steel tanks
  • Low-pressure tanks versus high-pressure tanks
  • Tank paints, coatings, and finishes
  • Tank dimensions and capacity recommendations

Read How to Select a SCUBA Tank.

SCUBA Tanks must be hydrostatically tested every five years (60 months). The larger primary cylinders typically have a factory hydro date between 3 and 9 months old, but not more than 12 months old. Smaller cylinders may have a factory hydro date up to 24 months old as these are manufactured less frequently.

Our cylinders and valves are Imperial 3/4 NPS neck threads, NOT Metric M25 neck threads, and the valves have overpressure relief devices. The cylinders have US DOT and Canadian CTC markings suitable for use ONLY in North America. Our cylinders and valves are NOT CE approved and NOT suitable for use in the European Union. Cylinders are NOT marked appropriately for use in Australia and New Zealand.
