DGX Flat {2 in | 5 cm} Nylon Webbing in Colors, per {1 ft | 30 cm}
Shock cord, surgical tubing, and nylon webbing are all priced and ordered in units of { 1 ft | 30 cm }, but we would look pretty foolish if we actually shipped it in little pieces. Orders up to { 50 ft | 15 m } are shipped as one continuous piece. For example, if you want a continuous length of ten feet or three meters, order ten units.
With 2,800 lbs of tensile strength, our nylon webbing is rot-proof, waterproof, and resistant to mold, mildew and UV. It is suitable for marine applications. The { 2 in | 5 cm } nylon webbing is the typical thickness, well suited for use in backplate harness rigging and general-purpose diving applications. Our webbing is what we believe to be the correct amount of compromise between flexibility and stiffness for the specific application of SCUBA diving BCD harnesses - stiffer than "seat-belt" webbing but less stiff than "tank-strap" webbing. The webbing may seem a little too stiff at first, but once wet and "broken-in" it will be the correct amount of stiffness to hold a shape and be comfortable.
Most nylon webbing is manufactured colorless and then dyed to the desired color, called "vat dyed" or "piece dyed". Our color nylon webbing is "solution dyed", meaning dye is added while the nylon is still in the chemical solution stage and so the color is present throughout the fiber of the webbing, not just on the outside. Think of the difference between a radish and a carrot; the radish is red on the outside only while the carrot is orange all the way through. Suitable for marine applications, our high quality webbing is rated AATCC Grade 4 for abrasion, seawater and light. The benefit of this excellent colorfast rating is no wash-out with abrasion or seawater and especially better resistance to fading in sunlight. (However, just to be clear, no color is as abrasion and UV fading resistant as carbon BLACK.) Our webbing is also a GRS certified textile, meaning it meets positive standards for socially responsible and environmentally sustainable production.

Orange or Chartreuse; which is better?
Traditional braided white nylon line is difficult to see in open water, but our Hi-Viz line stands out like neon, allowing easier line management with nearby divers. View the twenty second video of two divers on their stop during a training dive to watch the Hi-Viz Blaze Orange line in action. One of the divers is also carrying a backup spool loaded with Hi-Viz Blaze Orange, can you find it?
There is no easy answer regarding choice of color. Different colors are seen to differing degrees by the human eye, meaning people are more sensitive to some colors than others. Peak sensitivity is at portion of the visible spectrum where yellow transitions to green. With that in mind, most people will have the highest sensitivity to a yellow-green color (aka chartreuse, greenish-yellow) just by the nature of how the human eye sees colors. Yellow-green is somewhat more visible in dim light due to the Purkinje effect, however orange color is still on the brighter end of the spectrum making it highly visible too. Orange also provides more contrast with some backgrounds, especially those common to diving.
Another thing to consider is there are an estimated 300 million people with some degree of color vision deficiency - most of whom are male; about 1 in 12 men are color blind (8%). Color vision deficient individuals may better perceive orange due to contrast. The choices of orange and chartreuse have been extensively studied by human factors experts for applications such as transportation signage and high-visibility clothing.
