EEZYCUT Trilobite Line Cutter
Note that the stainless steel for this cutting tool is of a 400-series grade selected specifically to keep a sharp edge. After diving, you must rinse the diving tool in fresh water, dry it, and not replace it until the pouch is dry as well.
The EEZYCUT Trilobite has a very sharp cutting mechanism that provides a quick and efficient cut. Now offering more color options, the ergonomic design exposes a longer section of the cutting edge and enables the frame to push the line onto the blade. This design makes the cut more stable, which in turn provides a quicker cleaner cut and retains the blade's integrity by distributing the cut across its entire length. The Trilobite's small size makes it ideal for use as a diving cutting tool. The double-sided design means that it can be used efficiently in a variety of situations. The high strength polycarbonate plastic frame protects the blade's edge. The Trilobite is able to cut line up to 8mm in width and can easily cut { 2 in | 5.1 cm } webbing.
The tool is mounted in a polypropylene handle with a velcro strap for attaching to the pouch, and comes in a choice of pouches. The most popular harness mount pouch fits any { 2 in | 5.1 cm } harness webbing and the small size of the Trilobite means it can be located on any area of a diver's configuration. The wrist mount pouch fits straps up to { 1.125 in | 2.86 cm } wide found on most dive computers, and ensures a snug, movement-free fit. Also offered is a Flexi/Shoulder mount version which is made of neoprene with Velcro closure and is designed for flexibility and accessibility, wrapping easily around webbing, backpack straps etc. This is ideal for mounting on your shoulder portion of your harness.. The Trilobite is available in a variety of two sided color combinations as well as all black and the recently introduced glow-in-the-dark version (appears colorless translucent in daylight).
The Trilobite blade is made from 440 stainless steel, a high quality grade capable of holding up well against corrosion, and also of maintaining an extremely sharp edge. And when it does begin to lose its edge, the trilobite blade is easily replaced. Always check the blade prior to diving and replace as necessary. The Trilobite includes two replacement blades. Additional replacement blades are also available, and come in a safety sheath containing two blades. Included in the photos is a video that demonstrates how to change the blades.
The Cleanest, Sharpest Cut, Every Time The ergonomically patented design uses a longer section of the cutting edge, prolonging the integrity of the blade by dispersing the erosion. As the line is pushed onto the blade by the frame of the tool, the cut is much more stable, which not only provides a much cleaner splice, but helps the blade retain it's edge. Other "closed" cutting tools have one pivotal stress point on the cutting surface which quickly corrodes and weakens. |

Incredibly effortless cut - The
"WOW" factor! Once divers use the superior cutting action of the EEZYCUT Trilobite, they know that this is the tool they want by their side, be it for emergencies, or as a working tool. People never forget the first time they use the EEZYCUT Trilobite. |
|
Replaceable Blades The replaceable blades allow the diver to always have the sharpest machined edge, just when they need it most. Nothing is as sharp as a machined edge, which means the sharpness of most dive knives deteriorate in their effectiveness, from the moment of purchase. Replacement blades with a machined edge make sense. |

Sharper Steel Normal "marine grade" stainless steel, in terms of diving knives, is generally the name given to 420 grade stainless steel, also known as a cutlery grade. Whilst it has a good corrosion capacity in water, it does not have such a good capacity to hold a sharp edge. Titanium can not create as sharp an edge as stainless steel. The grade of stainless steel used in the EEZYCUT Trilobite (440a) is known for it's capacity to hold an extremely sharp edge, while holding up well against corrosion. |
|
Double Sided Design The double sided design means that it can be used more efficiently in a variety of situations, with less fiddling around. It is also very efficient in dealing with marine growth and kelp. |
|
Redundancy The small, convenient size { 3.66 in x 1.42 in x 0.32 in | 9.3 cm x 3.6 cm x 0.8 cm } make it ideal to use as part of a divers options for redundancy. Divers should carry backups of all life support equipment, including the cutting tool, and the EEZYCUT Trilobite can fit easily into that inventory. It fits anywhere, In the pocket, on the harness, or even on the wrist for effortless access. |
|
User Friendly Design With no fully open blades in difficult to reach places, the EEZYCUT Trilobite is safe on rocking boats and low visibility situations. |
|
Tough Frame The high strength polycarbonate plastic of the EEZYCUT Trilobite is rated to cut line up to 8 mm thick, with ease, every time. The EEZYCUT Trilobite also cuts all types of webbing with ease. |

OOPS.... NOT!
In our opinion, the large open faced dive knife (aka diver's tool, aka B.F.K.) is nearly useless underwater, more likely an entanglement hazard than a solution. Although they might have their place on deck and in commercial diving, we don't know any experienced sport or technical diver who carries a large knife strapped to their leg, so Dive Gear Express doesn't sell them. The large cutting face and point also make the typical dive knife generally unsuitable for a precise response to an emergency situation. Because the Trilobite line cutter is a two-sided cutting tool, we've heard divers express concerns they might inadvertently cut something with the other side. Frankly, it's a really bad idea to start waving any cutting tool around and recklessly hacking away at stuff, regardless of the design. Slow and deliberate movements are the appropriate way to use all cutting tools. As for the clever two-sided design of the Trilobite, by holding it with the index finger over the unused side, the Trilobite automatically becomes one-sided.
