Apeks RK3 & HD Fins w/Spring Heel Straps
The design has been the standard gear issue fin for military, special ops, coast guard and public safety divers for decades. The Apeks RK3 fins have a short wide blade that provides maximum forward thrust while maintaining great maneuverability. The vented blade design reduces resistance on the upstroke and enhances thrust on the downstroke. The vents also eliminate vortexes that can occur along the back of the blade much in the same way split fins eliminate the vortex. Both ends have holes designed to fit a typical carabiner make for easy storage of the fins. Spring straps are standard and the custom designed buckle holds the spring straps in optimum position with a simple 316 stainless pin and nut design to allow easy replacement of straps if necessary.
There are two versions of this fin the RK3 and the RK3-HD, which differ in the type of thermoplastic material used in their construction. The RK3 version is more flexible and has slightly positive buoyancy, making it a popular choice for warm water wetsuit divers. The RK3-HD version is stiffer and negatively buoyant, making it the more popular choice for cold water drysuit divers. Both versions of the thermoplastic material will hold up in the toughest environments, temperatures and abuse. Both versions are available in Black, but only the RK3 version is also available in Yellow color and only the RK3-HD is also available in Orange color. Effective Fall of 2024, Apeks is transitioning from their original Mustard Yellow color to what they call Hi-Viz Yellow (aka Fluorescent Chartreuse, which was previously only available to their public safety channel.)

NOTICE: Dive Gear Express always ships unused new fins, but all fin materials have some characteristics that upon close inspection can make new fins appear aged or used. By design, all fin materials are soft regardless of brand, so handing during manufacturing and shipping through various points of the supply chain will inevitably cause the appearance of some minor cosmetic scuffs. Some fin materials, especially rubber, also contain a mold release agent that exhibits a gradual "blooming" of a haze on the surface of the fin as it dries following manufacturing, giving the appearance of oxidation and aging. If the cosmetics are bothersome then they can be improved by scrubbing the surface with ordinary soap, water and a cloth.

What Size Fins Do I Need?
Unlike shoes, the question is difficult to answer with fins because a 'shoe' size is only part of the answer. The brand and type of neoprene bootie you wear, particularly if you wear heavy soled or rock boots, will have as much effect on the selection of fin foot pocket as the shoe size. Some people, especially those with high arches, prefer a loose fit in their fin and others prefer a snug fit. Fitting drysuit boots in the very large sizes is especially problematic.
There is no size standardization between brands of fins (or even between different models from the same brand) and so you cannot assume that a size in one brand of fin is the same dimensions as the size in another brand; even when the designs look very similar. Taking some actual measurements of your boot while on your foot and comparing to our foot pocket dimension charts will help determine the size selection for your desired fit.
Determine your correct size before you order! If you are not certain about your fin size then our recommendation is not to order until you can obtain that information. While Dive Gear Express will accept fins for return, you will be responsible for return shipping costs. Return shipping costs on fins can be expensive (especially from an International location) because fins are a relatively low priced item that has a high 'dimensional weight'. Your complete satisfaction is our goal, so please consider carefully before purchase.
