  • High-quality silicone for comfort, fit, and durability
  • Choose lenses from -1.0 to -8.0 diopter in half diopters
  • Fits most medium to wide faces

The DGX Rio may be fitted with -1.00 to -8.00 diopter vision correcting lenses, for divers who are nearsighted. Your mask and lenses will be assembled for you. The DGX Rio offers a slightly larger faceplate and lens area, with the tradeoff that the mask is not quite as low volume. The DGX Rio mask with vision correcting lenses fits most medium to wide faces. Includes a quality protective storage bag.

To order, consult your eyeglass or contact prescription for the proper amount of spherical power correction, and then select the mask lenses. When reading your prescription, "OS" means your left eye, and "OD" means your right eye. Strength for the lenses ranges from -1.0 to -8.0 diopter in half diopters. If you have a quarter diopter prescription, then increase to the next higher diopter. For example, if the Rx is -1.75, then increase to -2.0 diopter. If one eye needs no correction, then order a "Plano" lens for that side. If your Rx also has a cylinder power value with an axis value, you have an astigmatism and these lenses do not correct for astigmatism.

When you order vision correcting lenses with a DGX Mask, we install the vision correcting lenses in your mask and place it in a mesh bag. We put the plano lenses (aka blanks) in the little white boxes that came with the vision correcting lenses and ship all four pieces. Our masks are returnable, but to receive a refund you must return all four pieces: Mask & bag plus the two plano lenses.

DGX Rio Mask with Vision Correcting Lenses

Great mask for a great price! You can't beat the price anywhere online or even dive shops for prescription lense dive masks! Plus, you can chose free shipping (ordered on a Wednesday and got it on Monday). It comes with a bag to put the mask in, a DiveGearExpress sticker, and the original lenses that have no prescription are included. The only downside is that they didn't have an exact duplicate of my prescription, so I just ordered with the prescription rounded 0.5 up and I cannot tell any difference. They also are missing instructions for prepping your mask before a dive. The company recommends (and I used) getting J&J no tear baby shampoo. Rub drops in on each lense on inside with your finger and wash off using hot water and rubbing with your finger. Repeat like 8 times (or until the mask will not fog when you put it on and breathe). Put defog right before you dive (rub it on and dunk twice) and you are good to go!

Package arrived ahead of the forecast arrival date, (and in less than a week for a delivery to New Zealand). Mask is made of high quality silicone and hasn't leaked at all so far (used on 5-6 dives) on top of being extremely comfortable. The package also included non-corrected lenses as a backup, which I likely won't need but don't hurt, the bag shown in the third image is also included, and is well padded and durable. Overall couldn't be happier with this mask.

I haven't had a chance to dive with these yet and need to shave before I can really comment on the fit but so far so good! Mask looks to be high quality, as do the lenses, and as a bonus I hadn't anticipated the non corrected lenses were included as well which means if I ever go back to contacts I could still use this mask! Order shipped amazingly quickly too, happy all around.

Tek Tip Warning Image WARNING
Example water entry with diver protecting mask and regulator

This mask is not a "pool toy"; it is intended for use by SCUBA divers who are trained to make a proper water entry while protecting the mask and regulator with their hand. Improper handling or use may cause lenses to shatter upon impact.

Don't use toothpaste as an abrasive cleaner on modern dive masks, especially those masks that have optical quality ultra-clear glass lenses, vision correction lenses or 'optical coatings' on the lenses. You will either damage the lenses, or needlessly waste toothpaste since most modern toothpaste formulations are not at all abrasive. The same goes for using a lighter to 'burn' the lens to prepare a new mask. Dive Gear Express will not warranty masks that have been treated with abrasives or burned with lighters.

Most new dive masks do have mold release agents in the flexible skirt that during storage will migrate to the surface of the lens and cause fogging. These deposits can be safely removed with an extra application of a powerful surfactant like liquid dish soap, baby shampoo, SeaQuick or SeaDrops defog.

Ordering Vision Correcting Lenses for Dive Masks

To order, consult your eyeglass or contact prescription for the proper amount of spherical power correction, and then select the mask lenses. When reading your prescription, "OS" means your left eye, and "OD" means your right eye. The power of the correction amount is referred to as the "sphere" value expressed in diopters, and we offer vision correction lenses pre-manufactured in a range of diopter values. If your Rx also has "cylinder" and "axis" values, you have an astigmatism and our lenses do not correct for astigmatism.

The sphere strength for the lenses that correct nearsightedness, i.e. for divers that require distance vision correction, are negative values ranging from -1.0 to -8.0 diopter in half diopters. If you have a quarter diopter prescription, then increase to the next higher diopter. For example, if the Rx is -1.75, then increase to -2.0 diopter. If one eye needs no correction, then order a "Plano" lens for that side. Note, if your Rx sphere value is "+" then you are farsighted, also known as presbyopia, and unfortunately we only offer farsighted correction in the form of bifocal lenses.

If you need vision correction in order to read a book or view a phone screen, then you will benefit from using one of our bifocal "gauge reader" masks. A inset at the bottom of each lens adds magnification to see close-up objects, such as gauges, with clarity and yet still provide a means for clear sight at distances. A magnification of +2 diopters works for most people but some masks can be configured with bifocal lenses of +1, +2 or +3 diopters. Conventional wisdom suggests you can estimate + diopter reading value by age: 40 years old -start with a +1, then 50 years old use +2, and 60 years old select +3. However, making your selection based on your personal vision prescription is best.

Finally, all the standard vision correcting masks offered by Dive Gear Express have the correction ground into the lenses themselves. The correction is not aftermarket 'stick on', each of the lenses are ground just like you would expect on a pair of eyeglasses. Please note that the bifocal gauge reader versions are a two layer lens bonded at the factory prior to grinding.
