The Garmin Descent G1 is a multi-gas nitrox and trimix decompression dive computer in a premium multi-activity smartwatch in a purpose built rugged compact form factor.

The G1 series is also available in a SOLAR charging version that extends the Smartwatch Mode battery life.

The G1 does not support an air integration transmitter.

Featuring an easy-to-read, high-contrast display and 45mm watch case, the G1 Series is purpose built for SCUBA diving in both form and function. Depth rated to { 330 fsw | 100 msw } with leakproof inductive buttons and a sapphire lens, the Descent G1 Series is rugged and ready. The Descent series includes mixed-gas decompression dive computer functionality in a premium smartwatch with activity profiles, performance metrics and smart notifications. The Descent high-resolution transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) monochrome display assures readability in all dive conditions including bright sunlight.

Once underwater, the Bühlmann ZHL-16C decompression algorithm with user configurable Gradient Factors allows individual control of your dive computer decompression calculations and stop depths. Full color graphics plus tone and vibration alerts help keep you informed while you’re submerged. During a decompression dive, the Descent can provide time-to-surface based on "look ahead" at planned gas switches along with current ceiling and stop time. Multiple gas definition presets are supported with any combination of air, nitrox, trimix and oxygen. For technical dives, the Descent is user configurable to NOT "lockout" after a missed stop. Even underwater (if worn next to the skin), the Descent is able to measure and display your actual heartbeat rate.

On land, the Descent also functions as a robust training and outdoor companion. The Descent G1 Series delivers a multitude of wellness features including advanced sleep monitoring with sleep score and features a variety of built-in indoor and GPS sports apps with favorites that include swimming, hiking, running, cycling, golf, yoga and surfing. With the integrated Surfline Widget, surfers will see a visual representation of tide information, wave height, wind, and surf quality rating right on the wrist. The G1 Series will track and measure performance with Garmin’s full suite of advanced fitness features. Thanks to built-in Bluetooth, it supports notifications from a paired smartphone.

Garmin Descent G Series vs Mk Series Differences

The G and Mk series are identical when it comes to dive related firmware features as well as most non-dive features. However, the G series does not include a model which supports wireless tank pressure monitoring via their transmitter. The G series also does not include the Wi-Fi connectivity, mapping, and music storage features included with the Mk series.

The more significant differences are in construction and styling: While the Mk series is adapted from the fēnix® series, the G series has a more purpose built design incorporating leakproof inductive buttons. The bezel and back of the Mk series are stainless steel vs the all fiber-reinforced polymer of the G series. The Mk series offer a full color display, while the G series is a monochrome display. These differences make the G series a significantly lower price than the Mk series. The G series is also available in a SOLAR version that may substantially increase battery life between charges. The G1 SOLAR model includes a three piece QuickFit-22 wrist band similar to three piece QuickFit bands found on the Mk series, while the non-solar version has a two piece integrated hinged band that can be removed with a special tool for compatibility with variety of optional QuickFit-22 two or three piece bands.

Please see Garmin Descent Series Comparison (235 KB PDF) for a detailed reference chart of all the differences.
