What is the "REE" number stamped on the crown of my cylinder?

The "Rejection Elastic Expansion" (REE) number stamped on the crown of some steel SCUBA cylinders is the maximum volume in cubic centimeters the manufacturer specifies the cylinder may expand during a hydrostatic pressure test. It is guidance to the tester and of no significant concern to divers. The REE number, if present, is NOT the free air capacity of the cylinder.
