The 9/16-inch wide band and the screw assembly of this value priced clamp are both stainless steel. This is an "American-style" clamp where the grooves in the band are perforated completely through the band. This grade clamp is widely used in automotive hose clamping applications, although not usually seen in all stainless steel. Popularized in diving for use with hogarthian (aka DIR) stage strap assemblies, when using these inexpensive automotive hose clamps for securing cylinder stage straps you must avoid using the strap as a carry handle otherwise properly tightened clamps will eventually move and the strap will loosen. Over tightening the clamps in an attempt to prevent the strap from loosening will damage the clamp by either breaking the grooves or stripping the screw.

• The small size clamps are approximately {23 in | 58 cm} long for diameters from { 3.5 in | 9 cm } up to { 6.5 in | 17 cm }. This is most 4 inch and 5 inch cylinders such as the LP50, AL8, AL13, AL19, AL20, AL30, AL40, FX15, and FX23. It will NOT fit the tiny AL6.
• The large size clamps are approximately {28 in | 71 cm} long for diameters from { 5 in | 13 cm } to { 8.5 in | 22 cm }. This is all 7 inch and 8 inch cylinders such as the LP85, AL72, AL80, HP80, HP100, HP117, HP120, and HP130.

Once snugged to the cylinder, the clamp will always have some excess 'tail' remaining. If this is a concern, you can tuck the excess inside a tubular webbing sheath or trim off the excess. If you trim the excess, the remaining edge may be sharp so be prepared to also file the end a little to make it smooth.
