DGX Custom - DGX Gears XTRA-BCI Streamlined OW Reg Package
Replacing both octopus and BC power-inflator, this DGX Custom package is configured with a BCI regulator that allows the diver to breathe normally as from any second stage, yet the diver can simultaneously and rapidly inflate the BC, as well as deflate or orally inflate, as you would on any standard inflator mechanism.
The Streamlined Openwater Regulator Package for single tank divers is a DGX Gears XTRA DIN first stage and DGX Gears XTRA second stage plus the DGX Gears BC Integrated Backup second stage together with our DGX premium accessories. The package comes configured with DGX premium double braided flex or rubber hoses and also includes a DIN-to-Yoke spin-on adapter, a DIN regulator cap, and is Nitrox Ready.
Included with this Package:
- One DGX Gears XTRA first stage and one DGX Gears XTRA second stage
- One DGX Gears BCI Backup second stage
- One { 40 in | 1.0 m } Reg Hose for the primary, plus swivel
- One { 22 in | 56 cm } Reg Hose and quick-connect adapter for the BCI
- One Thin SPG with { 26 in | 66 cm } HP Hose
- DIN to Yoke Spin-On Adapter, Necklace, S/S Bolt Snap, DIN Regulator Cap
All hoses for the regulator are in your choice of braided flex or rubber. The primary second stage is on a { 40 in | 1.0 m } hose with an underarm swivel, and the backup BCI second stage is on a { 22 in | 57 cm } hose with quick-connect adapter. The thin SPG, in your choice of whiteface or blackface, and PSI or BAR, is on a { 26 in | 66 cm } HP hose with a S/S snap. The package comes assembled by Dive Gear Express with our premium accessories and is ready to dive anywhere in the world; you need only install the BCI on your BCD corrugated 1-inch diameter inflator hose.
The DGX Gears XTRA 1st stage is a extreme-performance design based on a balanced flow-through piston in a PVD chrome-plated brass body that provides consistent gas flow regardless of cold-water, depth, and tank pressure. Two standard high pressure 7/16-inch ports and five standard high-flow low pressure 3/8-inch ports on a swivel turret provide an infinite variety of mounting orientations and hose routing options. The XTRA also includes an auto-closure on the first stage that shuts the DIN inlet when not engaged on the valve, potentially avoiding the accidental flooding of the first stage. The DGX XTRA first stage comes standard with a 300-BAR DIN connector and is Nitrox Ready.
The XTRA 2nd stage is a balanced adjustable second stage in a rugged low-weight body featuring metal internal components with increased resistance to freezing when diving in extreme conditions. The large diaphragm and exhaust valve provide responsive inhalation and easy exhalation in all positions. An adjustable inhalation effort knob sets the cracking resistance to your preference and the dive/pre-dive switch minimizes free flow in when used as a backup. The XTRA also includes a long bite orthodontic mouthpiece to reduce jaw fatigue.
The DGX Gears BCI Backup Regulator adds convenience and streamlined efficiency to sport diving equipment configurations. The breathable inflator replaces the standard power-inflator found on your wing or BCD. By combining an alternate air source with a power-inflator, there is one less hose coming off the first stage. This configuration also makes it quicker and easier to find your backup regulator because you reach for and operate your inflator several times throughout each dive. In an emergency out-of-air donation, you always donate the primary regulator in your mouth and switch to breathing from the BCI.
The ultimate tool for streamlining, the DGX Gears BC Integrated Backup Regulator is attached to the wing or BCD corrugated inflator hose and is fed by the first stage in the same manner as any regulator. It can be assembled on nearly any BC and eliminates the need for a separate back up regulator aka "octopus." It is supplied with a hi-flow quick coupling adapter that together with an optional low-pressure regulator hose replaces your standard low pressure BC inflator hose - thus eliminating the hose. The advantage of using a high-flow QD adapter with an ordinary low-pressure regulator hose is that should the hose later need to be replaced due to age or damage, you do not have to source a hose with a specialized QD fitting. The BC Integrated Backup Regulator works with nearly any BCD or aircell (aka 'wing') with a 1-inch inside diameter corrugated hose. Just remove the existing power inflator on the BC and low-pressure BC hose on the first stage, then attach the BCI second stage.
- Large, shape and color differentiated buttons are easy-to-use, even with gloves.
- The easy purge cover is located on the bottom of the unit so it will not be affected by strong currents.
- Downstream demand valve with venturi assist for performance and reliability at any sport diving depth.
- Includes inlet protective cap to keep out water and particulates.
- The screw-on corrugated hose nipple makes the entire second stage easily detachable from the BCD or wing.
- Includes QD push-on adapter for use with standard low-pressure regulator hose.
- Proven design meets the requirements of EN250 for an auxiliary emergency breathing device integrated with a buoyancy inflation system.
Our recommended service interval is every two years or one hundred dives. See Product Attachments tab for service manuals. There is nothing unique about the DGX regulators in terms of service requirements and needs no special tools beyond those generic tools found on the typical regulator technicians bench. We sell the DGX Gears regulator service parts kits direct to the public.

Buddies and BC Integrated Regs
Before adding a BC integrated second stage to your sport diving equipment configuration, consider how you will manage an air sharing situation with your dive buddy. It means you will be donating your primary to a buddy and switching to the BC integrated second stage. Technical divers know that donating the primary second stage to their buddy works very well, when they use a long hose on their primary. For sport divers, we recommend changing to a { 40 in | 101 cm } primary hose with a fixed-angle pivot-swivel adapter on the second stage and to use underarm hose routing similar to our Streamlined Open Water Regulator Configuration. The Streamlined OW Configuration is more comfortable while also providing a workable length for donation of the primary. The ultimate streamlined configuration version is using a BC integrated second stage as your backup regulator.
After adding a BC integrated regulator to your configuration, please practice a "controlled conditions" donation with your buddy.
