Over the years, divers have tried countless do-it-yourself methods for keeping stage and deco regulator hoses under control: Rubber band or inner tube sections can be difficult to grip. Rubber surgical tubing oxidizes rapidly and wears out quickly. Shock cord can be difficult to fasten securely. Surgical tubing and shock cord roll along the side of the tank, making them difficult to manage. Dive Gear Express elastic hose retainers offer a superior alternative for keeping hoses under control.

  1. DGX hose retainer

I have used a few different hose retainers and these work best. Not too loose to hold hose during dive and not too tight to put hose away during deco stop. Handle is perfect size and good grip. These hose retainers last a very long time.

These hose retainers are so much easier to use than the standard latex retainers, especially when stowing a reg hose while underwater. Excellent product.

  4. Nice alternative to the EPDM

The softer neoprene-foam-infused material makes it easy to slide a hose through and the retainer doesn't slide or roll down the cylinder when stowing a hose. The tab is just the right size and can be located with thick drygloves on. I ordered the large size and found that they fit both my 7.25" (18cm) diameter and 6" (15cm) diameter cylinders nice and snug.

Looping Hoses Under Hose Retainers

A diver who carelessly stuffs the hose (especially a long hose) under a retainer near the base, when clipping the cylinder to their harness is more likely to inadvertently pass the base clip and strap through a loop of the hose. If they later try to deploy the long hose, it's snagged by the base of the strap and clip, and the full length cannot be deployed until the base is unclipped. Using two retainers, or a wide retainer , and positioning the hose retainer high keeps the second stage more tightly tucked up against the valve and very tidy.
