The M28 can function as an excellent stand-alone dive computer, plus it includes an external device interface. Please carefully read our notes below regarding optional cables required for external connectivity.

The M28 is a technical dive computer incorporating both the Bühlmann ZHL-16C decompression algorithm with gradient factors and DCAP (used in the Se7en CCR.) The M28 includes open-circuit and closed-circuit Air, Nitrox and Trimix mixed gas functionality. The M28 supports English language menus and both imperial/metric units of measure. This Poseidon M28 package includes: Poseidon M28 Computer, carrying case, dust bag, charging cable and bungee cord. The M28 provides an external CANbus connector but please carefully read our notes below regarding additional cables required, depending on desired options.

Note: The M28 can be used as a stand-alone dive computer and there are optional configurations to connect the M28 to other devices. Currently, a typical configuration is to connect the M28 to the SE7EN rebreather by replacing the display paddle or to monitor a Solid State Oxygen Sensor; to do this you will need to also purchase one or more of the Connecting Cable M2 (0000-690).

What Will The Next Generation Dive Computers Be Like?

We observe that in terms of dive related features and functionality, the current technical dive computers are essentially complete. By this we mean they most all pretty much have every feature required to manage multi-gas decompression repetitive dives of at least {330 ft | 100 m}. The increased CPU speed, RAM capacity and color display technologies of the hardware has enabled significant improvement in the user interfaces. Reliability has become noticeably better in recent years. That leads us to wonder "what's next?"

We don't have a crystal ball, but when even kitchen appliances are internet aware it's reasonable to assume that Internet of Things functionality will begin appearing in dive computers. We expect to see features commonly found in cell phones like wireless data connectivity, global positioning, cameras and many other capabilities supported by a general purpose CPU with a true file based operating system that provides for executing a variety of applications. Apps such as real-time process controllers, image/document storage, mapping, perhaps social media messaging are just a few possibilities. The recently introduced Poseidon M28 has many of these characteristics and even includes a WiFi access point with a built-in web server!
