  • Bühlmann ZHL-16c algorithm with configurable Gradient Factors
  • Built-in sensors include depth, temperature, 3-axis compass, gyroscope and barometric altimeter
  • Bluetooth Smart, Wi-Fi and ANT+ supports notifications with your smartphone
  • Suitable for wear as your everyday timepiece

For those sport and technical divers who like a wrist-watch form factor suitable for everyday wear, the Garmin Descent Mk1 builds on the features of their fēnix® 5X multi-activity GPS smartwatch to add SCUBA diving functionality. The Mk1 includes mixed-gas decompression dive computer functionality in a premium smartwatch with activity profiles, performance metrics and smart notifications. A high-resolution 64-color Garmin Chroma Display™ with LED back light assures readability in all dive conditions. Transflective technology that reflects and transmits light at the same time enables the display to also be readable under intense sunlight. The Mk1 supports dual satellite based navigation systems (on the surface only) with onscreen topographic mapping and pinpoint location reference — so you can mark your dive entry and exit points.

Once underwater, the Bühlmann ZHL-16C decompression algorithm with user configurable Gradient Factors allows individual control of your dive computer decompression calculations and stop depths. Full color graphics plus tone and vibration alerts help keep you informed while you’re submerged. During a decompression dive, the Mk1 can provide time-to-surface based on "look ahead" at planned gas switches along with current ceiling and stop time. Multiple gas definition presets are supported with any combination of air, nitrox, trimix and oxygen. For technical dives, the Mk1 is user configurable to NOT "lockout" after a missed stop. Even underwater (if worn next to the skin), the Mk1 is able to measure and display your actual heartbeat rate.

On land, the Descent Mk1 also functions as a robust training and outdoor companion. It has profiles for running, cycling, swimming, as well as indoor workouts and recreational activities such as boating, golf, hiking, climbing, skiing and much more. Thanks to built-in Bluetooth, the Mk1 supports notifications from a paired smartphone. It's also Wi-Fi enabled to connect and automatically send activity uploads, including your dive logs, for review or sharing on Garmin Connect. What’s more, the Descent Mk1 design is suitable for wear as your everyday timepiece.

  2. My new favourite thing!

I bought this as I wanted a watch-like computer for freediving as well as my tech diving. I know, hard ask right? I'm all for everything I own having multiple purposes and I needed a watch. So yes, the Garmin was the one thing that promised all that! I also use a Petrel which runs the Buhlmann algorithm hence why I wanted to find a computer that would serve as a backup for my tech diving. So far I absolutely love it! It is so easy to use and adjust conservatisms, program gases and switch between diving modes. At this stage I have not dived with it enough to comment on the tech functionalities. It is very sensitive when ascending (not sure if I can adjust) and it is not air integrated (not bothered by this).

It does everything I wanted it to do and more! Would definitely recommend.

I hope to update this when I have done a few more deco dives :)

  4. Great diving watch

    Hi,

First, great and super fast service. Stoked to order this watch on thursday afternoon and arrive in Tahiti on Friday night. Just amazing.

I bought this dive watch first for diving and then for others functions : GPS, wirst heart rate . You must be careful to the manual calibration of the altimeter. I calibrated it at sea level on a sunny sunday, lot of humidity. Next morning at level sea, it indicated me 2600 ft.

  5. Spectacular!

Since Garmin revealed their new Descent Dive watch I have been anxiously waiting for someone to have stock. Was amazed to find Dive Gear Express had stock ahead of everyone and put in my order straight away.

Can't speak highly enough of the watch. Absolutely fantastic and I use it everyday. It's lighter and more comfortable than I had thought it would be and does everything the Fenix 5X does with the added benefit of being an excellent dive computer.

    So happy with my purchase!

Tek Tip Warning Image WARNING
We consider the Mk1 high/medium/low safety factor settings, although typical of sport diving within no decompression limits, to be inappropriate for required stop technical diving, especially on trimix. Because the Mk1 does not have different gradient factor preset values for technical diving, we suggest divers rely upon the custom GF feature to select values appropriate for their stop required dives. Divers might consider starting out with a custom GF value of 30/70 until they build some experience with the Garmin Descent Mk1 on mixed-gas dives or dives with gas switches for accelerated decompression.
