  • Nitrox & Trimix decompression dive computer in multi-activity GPS smartwatch
  • Bühlmann ZHL-16c algorithm with configurable Gradient Factors
  • Built-in sensors include depth, temperature, 3-axis compass, gyroscope and barometric altimeter
  • Bluetooth Smart, Wi-Fi and ANT+ supports notifications with your smartphone
  • Suitable for wear as your everyday timepiece

For those sport and technical divers who like a wrist-watch form factor suitable for everyday wear, the Garmin Descent Mk1 builds on the features of their fēnix® 5X multi-activity smartwatch to add SCUBA diving functionality. The Mk1 includes mixed-gas decompression dive computer functionality in a premium smartwatch with activity profiles, performance metrics and smart notifications. A high-resolution 64-color Garmin Chroma Display™ with LED back light assures readability in all dive conditions. Transflective technology that reflects and transmits light at the same time enables the display to also be readable under intense sunlight.

Once underwater, the Bühlmann ZHL-16C decompression algorithm with user configurable Gradient Factors allows individual control of your dive computer decompression calculations and stop depths. Full color graphics plus tone and vibration alerts help keep you informed while you’re submerged. During a decompression dive, the Mk1 can provide time-to-surface based on "look ahead" at planned gas switches along with current ceiling and stop time. Multiple gas definition presets are supported with any combination of air, nitrox, trimix and oxygen. For technical dives, the Mk1 is user configurable to NOT "lockout" after a missed stop. Even underwater (if worn next to the skin), the Mk1 is able to measure and display your actual heartbeat rate.

On land, the Descent Mk1 also functions as a robust training and outdoor companion. It has profiles for running, cycling, swimming, as well as indoor workouts and recreational activities such as boating, golf, hiking, climbing, skiing and much more. Thanks to built-in Bluetooth, the Mk1 supports notifications from a paired smartphone. The Mk1 supports dual satellite based navigation systems (on the surface only) with onscreen topographic mapping and pinpoint location reference. It's also Wi-Fi enabled to connect and automatically send activity uploads, including your dive logs, for review or sharing on Garmin Connect. What’s more, the Descent Mk1 design is suitable for wear as your everyday timepiece.

Garmin Descent Mk1/Mk2/Mk2i Model Differences

Mk2i vs Mk1 Comparison

For those sport and technical divers who like a wrist-watch form factor suitable for everyday wear, the Garmin Descent builds on the features of their premium multi-activity GPS smartwatches to add SCUBA diving functionality.

  • The Garmin Descent Mk1, introduced in 2017, builds on the features of their popular fēnix® 5X multi-activity smartwatch to add SCUBA diving functionality.
  • The Garmin Descent Mk2, introduced in 2020, offers diving functionality identical to the Mk1 but is based on their more advanced fēnix® 6X series that offers many additional non-diving related features such as a pulse oximeter, Garmin Music, and Garmin Pay.
  • Although Mk2 models are only 1 mm larger than the Mk1 in over all size, the most significant visual difference is the display of the Mk2 offers a 36% larger area (1.4 vs 1.2 inch diameter) with a slimmer bezel and higher resolution (280x280 vs 240x240 pixels).
  • Depending on the features enabled, the Mk2 has a battery life about double that of the Mk1. The MK1 and Mk2 also use different USB data and charging clips.
  • The top-of-the-line Mk2i model adds support for their SubWave™ sonar data network which can share real time data — such as remaining dive time, gas consumption rate and more — while underwater during the dive between you and other Mk2i divers with {33 feet | 10 meters}.
  • The MK2i model also supports hoseless gas cylinder pressure integration, sometimes called air integration (AI), with up to five (5) separately purchased optional Descent T1 Tank Pod wireless pressure transmitters. No other Garmin Descent model (without the little 'i') supports AI.
  • The only other significant differences between the Garmin Descent models are their cosmetics, especially bezel materials and colors. Garmin sometimes offers bundles with specific accessory packages such as different wrist bands, but the core Descent features remain as described above.

On land, every Descent model also functions as a robust training and outdoor companion. They have profiles for running, cycling, swimming, as well as indoor workouts and recreational activities such as boating, golf, hiking, climbing, skiing and much more. They support dual satellite based navigation systems (on the surface only) with onscreen topographic mapping and pinpoint location reference. Thanks to built-in Bluetooth, they support notifications from a paired smartphone. All Descent models are able to connect via Wi-Fi and automatically send activity uploads, including your dive logs, for review or sharing on Garmin Connect.
