Hogarthian Configuration Regulator Packages |
Pricelist [Currency] |
These hogarthian regulator packages are already configured for hogarthian hose routing to eliminate bowing and dangling hoses. You get the correct length hoses in the correct ports and there is no extra 'hose kit' to buy, making these packages an even better value. We include a naked SPG with a tempered glass face, chrome-plated brass housing, and a Bourdon tube mechanism providing the greatest degree of accuracy and reliability. We also include a small S/S snap for the primary second stage, a necklace for the backup second stage, and a medium S/S snap for the SPG. New for 2012 we now offer all our hogarthian regulator packages with a hose choice of rubber or double-braided flex for the same price. Flex hoses are a considerable improvement over the rubber hose. The double-braided hose is more flexible, stronger and weighs less than a rubber hose, but most importantly it is more durable. Our high pressure flex hose also has an outer polyester braided cover that is laid over a woven Kevlar® layer that gives it a standard diameter and has a rated burst pressure of 22000 PSI | 1500 BAR. The classic hogarthian regulator configuration for doubles uses two DIN fitting first stages. The primary second stage has a long hose, with the primary first stage connected to the diver's right gas manifold outlet. The long hose routes straight down the divers right side back behind the wing, under the light canister (if no light canister then under the waistbelt sheath), up and across the chest to the left shoulder, behind the neck and around to the mouth. The primary second stage is clipped to the right shoulder D-ring when not in the mouth. The backup second stage has a short hose and hangs on a necklace directly below the chin, with the backup first stage connected to the diver's left gas manifold outlet. The design of the second stages should allow the cover and diaphragm to be removed and replaced underwater in order to clear silt or debris. The hose to the BC power inflator is connected to the primary first stage and is also a shorter length appropriate for the shorter BC inflation assembly found on doubles. The high pressure hose for the SPG is shorter as well and is connected to the backup first stage. The HP hose is routed straight down the divers left back side and the SPG is clipped to the waist D-ring. There is also a single tank hogarthian regulator configuration. The single first stage regulator uses the same length low-pressure second stage hoses. However, because there is only one first stage centered on the divers back instead of two first stages at the shoulders, the BC and SPG hose lengths are different. The BC inflator hose is whatever appropriate single tank length was supplied with the specific BCD aircell and the high pressure hose for the SPG is slightly longer as well. |

Backup Second StagesTraditionally, the backup second stage regulator has been a lower-performance lower-cost unbalanced design because it was thought to be less likely to free flow and less prone to problems. However, experience has demonstrated concerns with using a lower performance regulator under conditions that forced a switch to the backup, and most experienced divers are now choosing identical high-performance backup and primary regulators. Our high-performance balanced second stages are very resistant to free flow when it has the venturi setting on pre-dive and the adjustment knob set low. Field experience has shown our regulators to be quite trouble-free as well. |

Gearing Up With a Long HoseAfter donning your backplate, harness and wing the order of donning the regulators and bottles is important. That's because in an emergency the long hose must be unobstructed during a handoff and not be entangled in other gear. First, if logistics allow then clip on the stage or deco bottles. Second, place the backup second stage necklace over your head so that the backup second stage falls high on your chest at your neck. Third, don the long hose and clip the primary second stage to the right shoulder D-ring until ready to place it in your mouth. If you can't clip the bottles first, then when clipping them on later you must take care not to trap the long hose under the bottle strap and the left shoulder D-ring. We've seen more than one diver trap the long hose if while sitting they lean far forward to clip bottles. |
