Awarded top performance and ergonomics ratings by ScubaLab, the Hollis Gear regulators offer a choice of first stages with different types of port alignments and a choice of second stages with different adjustment features. All the Hollis regulators are Nitrox Ready.

The Hollis second stages offer venturi assisted breathing, dive/predive switch to eliminate free flow, as well as a balanced design that maintains consistent inhalation effort throughout the dive by compensating for depth changes. Both second stages include an orthodontic mouthpiece for comfort and reduced jaw fatigue with easy grip controls even while wearing gloves. The 212 second stage venturi assist is adjustable and the 221 second stage venturi assist is not adjustable. The dynamically adjustable venturi assist allows the diver to set the cracking pressure and inhalation resistance to their personal preference.

The Hollis first stages feature an overbalanced diaphragm design that allows the intermediate pressure to progressively increase as depth and gas-density increase for consistent gas flow regardless of depth. Both meet CE standard for cold water performance and include the environmental sealing kit to protect against contaminants and icing. They have four low-pressure standard 3/8-inch UNF ports and two high-pressure standard 7/16-inch UNF ports. The DC1 is a swivel turret design providing optimum hose routing and the DC3 is a more compact fixed port design.

Swivel vs Fixed

The internal structure of the fixed port design allows for a very direct gas flow through the first stage, providing optimal performance. However, the absolute cleanest hose routing is only available using the swivel turret design. Streamlined hose routing is a significant concern for experienced divers where the swivel design can make a noticeable reduction of drag. The objection to the swivel design is it adds moving parts to a more complex gas path, theoretically being less reliable and lower performance. However, in our experience with quality regulators these theoretical concerns about performance and reliability are irrelavant. All the regulators offered by Dive Gear Express are high performance products with proven reliability and the reality is both these designs will more than meet your expectations. The choice is largely a matter of your personal preference. In general we observe most technical divers tend to select the swivel design, and single tank divers tend to select the fixed port design.
