Beware of Repackaged Lubricant: Some other vendors are purchasing oxygen compatible lubricants in bulk containers and then repackaging it in smaller 1/4-oz or 1/2-oz sizes. Aerospace Lubricants has advised us this is an unapproved and possibly unsafe practice. These unapproved package types contain mold release agents, silcone treated rubber stoppers in the syringes, and dyes in colored containers, all of which can leach into the lubricant itself. These containers, along with the repackaging conditions themselves, are certain to produce lubricants which are contaminated and no longer suitable for oxygen service. Dive Gear Express only sells lubricants that are supplied directly from the factory in their carefully selected packaging. |

Cleaning Low Current Electrical ContactsAlways use cleaners specifically designed for the precious metal contacts used in low current applications found in high-tech electronics. The low current makes the contacts exceptionally sensitive to contamination, yet their ultra thin precious metal plating is easy to damage during cleaning. Never use the cleaners commonly associated with SCUBA maintenance. Many such cleaners contain solvents that are polar and may also leave residues, making them a potential problem in low current applications. This is also true of many household products such as rubbing alcohol. Never use ordinary 'tuner cleaner' products for cleaning precious metal contacts, particularly with rebreathers. Their cleaning action is too harsh and most formulations sold by consumer electronics retailers contain petroleum distillates, which are flammable and not safe for use with some plastics. Never use silicone based cleaner/lubricants with electrical contacts, even though this is an often suggested practice. Silicone products will react with plastics and other contaminates to form insulating films and silicone carbide compounds which can cause intermittent connections. Never use a pencil eraser to clean precious metal contacts, even though this is another common practice. Erasers are highly abrasive and will remove the ultra thin precious metal plating. Further, the glue in erasers leaves behind a film that is extremely difficult to remove and can also cause intermittent connections. |

Storing RelyOn MDC Tablets and SolutionDon't get any water in the tablet bottle, and make sure your hands are absolutely dry when dispensing a tablet from the container. We've noticed that if the RelyOn MDC tablets are not stored in an airtight manner, over time the tablets will react with the moisture in air, breaking down and starting to dissolve, right in the container. There is a small packet of desiccant in the tablet container; be sure to leave it in place on top of the tablets during storage and take care to make sure the cap is tightly closed. Some people further increase storage life by placing the container in a zip lock bag, sucking out the air and storing in a refrigerator. The RelyOn MDC solution has a color indicator to assure potency; when the solution turns clear it should be discarded. We've noticed that the RelyOn solution will lose potency faster when the temperature is higher. If you leave the spray bottle out in the hot sun, it will turn clear in just a couple of hours. If you store it indoors it will last a week or two depending on the room temperature. If you store the solution in the refrigerator it will last quite a long time. |
