Haskel Mini Sport Booster

The Mini Sport Booster from Haskel is designed for diving applications that demand performance, reliability and safety at an affordable price. The oil-free 4-inch drive Mini Sport Booster is a compressed air driven, air cooled, non-lubricated, reciprocating piston, single stage type. The approximate size ratio of the air drive piston to the gas piston is 25:1. The Mini Sport Booster is factory cleaned by Haskel for Oxygen Service.

The very small size (LxWxH = 14 x 6 x 6.5 inches) and 12 pound weight allow it to be conveniently transported. The Mini Sport Booster can fill cylinders up to 3300 psi and it can boost with source gas pressures as low as 100 psi. Popular with technical and rebreather divers, the Mini Sport Booster allows deco bottles, oxygen and diluent rebreather cylinders to be filled when low pressure compressed air is the only source of power available. Operating with a drive air pressure of just 140 psi means it can be supplied by the LP port of a typical SCUBA first stage regulator and tank.

For maximum flexibility, the Haskel Mini Sport Booster is offered in a "naked" configuration, less fittings and hose assemblies. For our model number MSB-9000, the inlet and outlet gas ports accept standard SAE 9/16"-18 fittings and the drive gas inlet accepts a standard NPT 1/2"-14 fitting. Dive Gear Express offers optional fitting and hose kits.

Take a look at the fill times in the table at right. For example, starting with a supply pressure of just 1000 psi, to fill an AL-19 cylinder to 3000 psi is just 3 minutes. A Gas Booster Reality Check

Comparing various specifications published for gas boosters, including the one we sell, can be misleading. The manufacturer published specifications are often the ideal maximums and minimums. Do not expect any booster to deliver the ideal values, although a top quality booster can come close. There are many other considerations, especially at low supply pressures. For example, with a supply gas pressure of 300 psi the Mini Sport Booster will stall at an output pressure of about 2,800 to 3,000 psi. On the bright side, Haskel is the 'big dog' of quality and the fill time chart above is the actual observed real deal.

> Deluxe Fitting and Hose Kit

Deluxe/Analog fitting and hose kit includes a quick connect system that provides the ability to transfill or boost from a variety of sources. The quick connects make it easy to pack the booster for transport and easy to reconfigure as needed. The eight foot inlet hose is long enough to reach even the tallest supply cylinders and includes a check valve to prevent back flow. The inlet hose also includes quick connects and three common US adapters are included in the package: CGA-580 helium/argon, CGA-540 oxygen, and DIN Scuba adapter with bleed valve. The five foot long outlet hose includes a line valve, analog pressure gauge (both psi/bar markings), and a DIN Scuba adapter with bleed valve. Also included is a standard BC quick-connect fitting for the drive gas, and quick connect fittings for the inlet and outlet hoses.

Deluxe/Digital kit includes the same fitting and hose system but substitutes a digital electronic gauge (user configurable for psi or bar display). The accuracy and precision of the digital gauge makes the system suitable not only for transfilling and boosting, but also for blending.

A nice feature of our Deluxe fitting and hose kit is the quick connects are oriented such that the inlet and outlet hoses can be directly plugged together without the booster. This means you can use the hoses for transfilling and blending without needing the booster at hand as well.

Warning We've seen some unsafe low cost do-it-yourself fitting and hose kits cobbled together from sources like hydraulic supply houses and even Home Depot. The fittings are usually low pressure type and only suitable for 'shop air' service at 200 psi. In particular, very few quick connect fittings are rated for high pressure. PTFE S/S braided hose is popular because it's cheap and very flexible, but it's typically only 2400 psi service pressure and not particularly durable. If going DIY, please be safe and keep in mind our kits use fittings and breathing air hoses carefully matched to the higher pressure specifications and quality of the Haskel Mini Sport Booster.
