Battery Service Life in RebreathersThe most significant pulse current demands are the firing of the oxygen-injection solenoid and the illumination of the backlight. The diver physiology and skill with managing the rebreather, as well as the actual dive profile, significantly affect how often the solenoid fires. Dive conditions and individual diver preferences determine how often and how long the backlight is illuminated. The electronics also have a continuous current demand required to monitor wet sensors and switches. For whatever time the battery is in the rebreather, the electronics continues to drain the battery even when the unit is out of the water and shutdown. These factors, along with the enourmous differences in quality between brands of batteries, result in wide variation of operational battery life among rebreather divers. |
