Dive Gear Express offers HID primary light systems by Light Monkey that pick up where LED lights leave off. They are available in variety of configurations of light output, reflector and burn time. We stock the two most popular configurations: the HID 21W with the 11 Ahr battery, and the HID 35W with the 20 Ahr battery, both with the adjustable focus exploration reflector. Powered with a lithium chemistry rechargable battery, these lights all use Brightstar HID brand lamps that have demonstrated themselves to be a high quality and very robust product.

The exploration HID lights we stock both utilize a split ballast system in which the ballast is located in the lid of the canister and the igniter is located at the light head. This design offers as small as possible footprint for the aluminum body light head. Our stock configurations also include the adjustable focus exploration reflector and goodman handle. Light Monkey HID Light System Configurator

• Choose your light head. The higher the wattage the brighter the light, and the faster it drains the battery. See the table below for burn times on some typical combinations of light head and battery.
• Choose your reflector. The exploration reflector is available with goodman or elastic hand mounts, the Lumedyne video reflector has three 1/4-20 holes for mounting on light arms.
• Choose your ballast and lid style. The split style places the electronic ballast in the canister and only the ignitor and lamp in the head. Splitting reduces the size and weight of the light head but makes the battery canister about { 2 in | 5.1 cm} longer. Standard style places all the electronics in the head, the head is larger but the canister is shorter. Standard style enables the option of a sidemount version of the lid, where the cord exits the lid perpendicular to the axis of the canister. Standard also enables the option of having the power cord between the head and battery be plugable with each other, even underwater, using E/O style connectors. For exploration diving with the 50W head, we recommend selecting the split ballast style.
• Choose your battery capacity. Choose any battery for the 21W head. We recommend choosing the 20 Ahr battery for the 35W and 50W heads, unless you have a specific reason you want a smaller battery and shorter burn time.

> HID Dual Light Systems for Video

Light Monkey also offers their HID 50W and 35W light systems and 20 Ahr battery in a dual head configuration suitable for lighting underwater video photography. The Lumedyne reflector softens, diffuses and widens the beams to match the coverage of your camcorder's or digital still camera's wide-angle optics. The video reflectors each have three 1/4-20 holes for mounting on light arms. In this application, both the HID ballast and ignitor are located entirely in the light heads. Moving all the electronics to the head allows the cords to be unplugged and plugged while underwater, using what are known as E/O style connectors. This enables the battery canister to supply dual light heads simply by adding a Y connector to the cable, and also allows light heads or battery packs to be swapped underwater. Light Monkey also offers a value priced entry-level dual head video configuration using their HID 21W light heads with the 11 Ahr battery.

Knife Kit for LM Goodman Handle

The Light Monkey goodman handle has been redesigned to perfectly accept the small Tekna Xtra Edge knife as a line cutter accessory. Recently improved, the blade is now made of high carbon stainless steel, providing increased toughness and better edge holding. Both the sheath and blade handle are now made with propriety fiber and titanium reinforced polymer. The cutting blade length is { 1.4 in | 3.6 cm } and the overall length is { 3.5 in | 8.9 cm }.

The base of the Light Monkey goodman handle is now pre-drilled and threaded to accept a screw which holds the knife sheath attached to either the outside or inside of the bottom of the handle, configured for left or right hand access. Threading an o-ring over the goodman handle and the knife handle itself while it is stored in the sheath helps keep the entire assembly in place until needed. When stored on the outside bottom of the goodman, a flick of the thumb and the knife is ready to be easily withdrawn from the sheath. Along with the knife, Dive Gear Express also includes the stainless steel screw and the o-ring.
