Highland Gas Transfill Hose with Analog Gauge

The Gas Transfill Hose from Highland allows you to transfer high pressure gas to equalize between two scuba cylinders. The lightweight, flexible Miflex hose is 60-inches (five feet) long, rated for 5000 psi service pressure, with standard DIN fittings that connect to both 200 Bar and 300 Bar standard scuba cylinder valves. Two DIN-to-Yoke Adapters are included, for transfers between standard K-valve tanks. A stainless steel quick-action bleed screw is positioned on the DIN fitting just below the gauge. The easy-to-read 2-inch pressure gauge is made from high-quality machined stainless steel with a shock protecting rubber boot, and is liquid filled for dampening with an air bubble to allow for expansion. The gauge provides readings in both imperial and metric measurements (0-5000 psi, 0-350 bar). The Gas Transfill Hose is suitable for oxygen transfers.

To use, open the cylinder valve on the lower pressure cylinder first and then slowly open the cylinder valve on the higher pressure cylinder. As the gas transfers, monitor the gauge pressure and close both valves when the desired amount of gas has been transfered or the cylinder pressures have equalized. Finally, twist the stainless steel bleed screw to drain the pressure in the hose.

Threaded Dust Plug for DIN Valve, Plastic

The dust plug for DIN valves has the following features:

  • Made from high-tech plastic that resists salt and sediment buildup, corrosion and damage from normal use.
  • Works with either 200-bar or 300-bar DIN valve fittings.
  • Includes swivel attachment lanyard and o-ring.
  • Vented, so that the presence of high-pressure gas does not trap the plug, making it difficult to remove.

Highland DIN Sealing Plug w/O-ring, Stainless Steel

Highland DIN Sealing Plug w/O-ring, Stainless Steel

The Highland 316 grade Stainless Steel DIN Sealing Plug provides a true O-ring seal in both 200-Bar and 300-Bar valves; it's primary purpose is to prevent gas loss from leaks. The DIN plug is oxygen clean and includes a Viton O-ring. The typical use is to protect an expensive (or just plain important) gas fill from accidental loss while the cylinder is being handled or transported.

The moment a S/S plug is removed from the valve it seems to grow legs and walk away, so screw it into the first stage DIN cap from your regulator and secure it with the lanyard. If you discover you are unable to remove the plug by hand because it's being held in place by the pressure of the gas trying to escape, close the valve and break the seal by loosening the plug with a wrench.

What Happened to My Gas?

Missing a dive because of lost gas is a very annoying experience, and it's often blamed on a short fill. The more likely reason is a gas leak caused by carrying a cylinder with the handwheel and allowing the valve to be inadvertently opened slightly. This typically occurs when the cylinder is being lifted up into a vehicle or tank rack, or when the cylinder shifts during transport and the handwheel is rubbed open. We also regularly see leaking neck O-rings and even leaking burst disk assemblies. Leaks through the valve seat are rare but do happen with very old and worn valves. Sometimes leaks are so slow that the hiss of gas escaping can't even be heard. Often with such tiny leaks the pressure will drop a few hundred PSI and the leak will stop, but the cylinder almost never leaks to completely empty; thus the appearance of a short fill.

Leaks from the valve outlet can be prevented by meticulously double checking the valve is closed whenever you move a cylinder. Leaks from the neck or burst disk assembly can only be prevented by regular maintenance of your valve. When your cylinder and valve receive their annual visual inspection make sure the O-ring groove in the neck is cleaned and a new clean and unlubricated neck O-ring installed. Dive Gear Express recommends the burst disk replaced whenever the cylinder is hydro tested (i.e., every five years) and annually if the cylinder is known to have been overfilled.

DIN Deluxe Fill Adapter

DIN Deluxe Fill Adapter

If you have filled cylinders with 200 and 300 Bar DIN valves then you have probably used the really annoying one-piece DIN-to-Yoke fill blocks. The DIN-to-Yoke Deluxe Fill Adapter is a much better solution because it uses the same system for connecting to the cylinder valve as scuba regulators. The deluxe fill adapter has a hand wheel for easy attachment and removal, no wrench needed. Even better, because you can orient the yoke fitting a full 360°, the adapter adjusts to accommodate the orientation of the fill whip, not the other way around. That means no more fighting with the whip to attach it to the cylinder. Recently improved to accept standard size o-rings. Fits all 200-Bar and 300-Bar DIN valves, but this adapter is suitable for filling only.

Accurate Cylinder Pressure Checker

Having to hunt for an SPG-equipped regulator when trying to determine whether a set of tanks is sufficiently full can be a hassle. That's why it helps to have a simple, easy-to-use check gauge handy. Unfortunately, most check gauges are equipped with standard yoke connectors--which means that, when you want to check tank pressure on a set of DIN-equipped cylinders, you have to take time to hunt for an additional fitting. Fortunately, the Pressure Check Gauge comes standard with a DIN connector. If you have to check a standard tank, just spin on a DIN-to-Yoke Adapter. The Dive Gear Express Check Gauge provides readings in both imperial and metric measurements. To use, open the cylinder valve and note the pressure, the close the valve and twist the bleed on the body of the check gauge to drain the pressure.
