Dive Gear Express stocks the uncommon sizes of aluminum pony, deco, and inflation SCUBA Cylinders (aka SCUBA "Tanks") preferred by experienced sport and technical divers. We ship your Nitrox Ready cylinder with the valve installed (domestic US only). Unless you order another valve, the valve is a 200-Bar Pro DIN/K valve suitable for use with both DIN or Yoke regulator fittings. Your cylinder ships with a few PSI pressure of oxygen compatible air necessary to keep the interior dry. The cylinders have a current month Visual Inspection Sticker; no re-inspection is necessary before filling. SCUBA Tanks must be hydrostatically tested every five years (60 months). Inflation, pony and deco aluminum deco bottles typically have a factory hydro date between 6 and 12 months old, but not more than 24 months old.

"Clear Brushed" "Brushed No-Coat" "Shot-Blast"

Experienced divers prefer unpainted aluminum cylinders because unpainted cylinders better resist corrosion and retain their appearance with heavy use. We offer the brushed no-coat factory finish on our aluminum cylinders.

"Clear Brushed" is a shiny clear coating with poor durability and is often confused with unpainted finishes.
"Brushed No-Coat" is a smooth bright unpainted finish that retains it's appearance with heavy use.
"Shot-Blast" is a textured matte unpainted finish, decals do not adhere well to shot-blast.

Give Tank Boots the Boot, Decals Too!

Tank boots aren't available for most of the tank sizes we sell because tank boots are only made for 6.9 inch(AL-72), 7.25 inch(AL-80) and 8.0 inch (AL-100) tank diameters. Aluminum tanks don't need boots because they have flat bottoms and we don't sell tank boots in those diameters for a very good reason: they are the most common cause of damage to the tank and most experienced divers don't use them on aluminum tanks. In our local dive shop, Fill Express, we perform a huge number of annual visual inspections every year. The most common reason we see for failing the inspection and condemning the tank is corrosion under the tank boot or beneath decals. Decals (including those big 'Nitrox' decals) should be scraped off every year during inspection. If your local dive shop takes the time to remove all decals, then you know they are protecting your investment. Only the required decals should be replaced, a single current VIP decal and if necessary a nitrox wrap or MOD decals. If you just can't live without a boot on your tank, then the moment you get home from the dive knock the boot off then rinse the tank and boot... and leave the boot off (resting on top of the tank is a good place to store) until time to go diving again.

If shopping on-line, watch out for shenanigans. Some on-line retailers will 'low ball' the price but then have exorbitant prices for the valve, accessories like caps and boots, shipping surcharges, and one major on-line vendor even adds a $20 'cylinder handling fee' at the last step of checkout. Some cylinders purchased on-line may not include a VIP sticker, which means you'll pay extra at the local dive shop to have it inspected. There are several other tricks we won't mention here, but you get the idea.

We install the valve with a Viton neck O-ring and oxygen-compatible lubricant; no VIP re-inspection fee is necessary before filling.
