Form vs. Function in Dive Masks

Frameless vs. Frame: The lenses in frameless designs will sit closer to your eyes offering a little wider field of vision in all directions. Frameless designs are also typically lower volume than rigid frame designs. The lack of a thick rigid frame means frameless styles can be folded up very flat and easily stowed in a pocket as a 'backup' mask. Most people find that the traditional rigid frame designs offer the most stable and secure fit. Select a framed design if you are one of those rare individuals who have difficultly finding masks with a good fit.

Single vs. Double Lens: Single lens styles will normally offer a somewhat less obstructed view compared to double lens styles because of the absence of the nose bridge. However, single lens masks are typically heavier than double lens mask because there is simply more glass. Double lens styles are also usually lower volume than single lens designs. The extreme teardrop lens shapes offer better 'look down' vision, but at the expense of increased volume.

Low Volume vs. Snorkel: Divers should never use the typical 'snorkel mask' because it holds such a large air volume that it requires excessive effort to clear of water and as well as being wasteful of breathing gas. There is no 'perfect' mask, but all the masks we offer are suitable for diving and have been carefully selected to be relatively low-volume designs with good field of vision. Some low volume masks we offer are very low volume and sit very close to the face, making them a poor choice of you have a large nose or facial hair.

Frankly, the differences of frame and lens styles are very subtle in the high-quality masks offered by Dive Gear Express. Choice is largely a matter of personal preference and your experience.

SeaDive UltraVision-SL Frameless Mask

The SeaDive UltraVision-SL single lens mask is combines the frameless benefit of easy clearing, light weight, compactness and durability with the stable and secure fit found on traditional framed masks. Also known as the Dive Rite ES145, this mask features a large teardrop shaped single tempered glass lens improves your peripheral and look-down vision and includes silicone skirt with easily adjustable strap. The UltraVision-SL frameless design fits nearly every standard-to-wide face and will accommodate facial hair, large noses, and high brows. The frameless design means the buckle is attached to the skirt which allows the mask to better fit the contours of the face. SeaDive CatEye Frameless SoftSkin Mask

The SeaDive CatEye is an extremely low volume double lens frameless design offering larger nose pocket and a deeper fit that yields a wider view. The CatEye incorportates a high-tech molding technology to produce the SoftSkin seal that stretches twice its size to mold to your facial features. The lens frame area is molded of high-quality silicone while simultaneously a separate mold control forms the skirt area from a special SoftSkin material. The SoftSkin material is exceptionally pliable with outstanding tensile strength and memory, clinging like a glove to facial contours. SeaDive SeaLynx Mask w/Anti-Fog

Very popular because it fits such a wide variety of divers, the SeaLynx double lens mask fits nearly every standard-to-wide face and will accommodate facial hair, large noses, and high brows. The mask skirt is made of high-quality black silicone for superior comfort, fit, and durability. The mask also includes a black high-impact plastic frame and tempered glass lenses, with an easily adjustable strap. The Anti-Fog feature means the mask has an embedded water resistant compound on the inside of the lenses that reduces the tendency to fog. Also available with SharpImage and TruColor lenses.
