NiTek Q - Advanced Nitrox Dive Computer

Niteq Q, AC Charger and USB Cable Housed in a mil-spec aluminum case with a mineral glass viewing port and a very readable bright yellow OLED display, the NiTek Q is a wrist-mounted dive computer with a compact ergonomic form factor, yet displays dive data upon a large screen. Intuitive, push button navigation makes diving the NiTek Q exceptionally easy and an excellent choice for recreational Nitrox divers. The base level NiTek Q is a two-gas Nitrox dive computer with full planned decompression capability to support the Advanced Nitrox diver. Three user selectable pre-set Gradient Factors allow you to select your level of conservancy and "deep stops." The NiTek Q also includes PC/Mac compatible "Workbench" desktop dive planning and gas blending software. For more details about the NiTek Q, click the book icon at left to view the Quick Start Guide.

The NiTek Q is powered with a rechargable lithium polymer battery. It is charged from nearly any USB port, and full recharge takes a maximum of four hours and typically much less time. An AC charger is included with the NiTek Q and it also can be charged with the third-party AC and car chargers with a USB Mini-B connector used on many cell phones, cameras and GPS units. Niteq Q Charging Port The NiTek Q Advanced Nitrox dive computer from Dive Gear Express includes a depth compensating wrist strap, waterproof quick start guide, USB Type-A to Mini-B cable and AC charger. Optional accessories include a carry bag.

The NiTek Q gives you the freedom to choose the additional features you want. It comes standard as a two-gas Advanced Nitrox computer and you can order it with next generation Digital Compass and detail dive profile history download capability. As your diving advances, upgrades allow the NiTek Q to keep diving with you. The NiTek Q Advanced Nitrox can later be upgraded to Trimix with custom Gradient Factors. You can also order the NiTek Q Trimix to get all the open-circuit diving features already enabled. If you dive rebreathers now or in the future, every NiTek Q can be upgraded to support Constant PO2 setpoint diving with all closed-circuit rebreathers (CCR).

NiTek Q - Full Trimix Dive Computer w/Carry Bag

A mixed-gas dive computer with full decompression capabilities, the Dive Rite NiTek Q Trimix from Dive Gear Express is an extremely easy to use technical dive computer that supports diving to 150 meters (492 feet). This version of the NiTek Q is upgraded to include full Nitrox and Trimix, a digital compass and also includes detail dive profile downloading to the desktop. Divers will find they can easily scroll through the menu and setup their dive plan without needing to recall complex instructions or flow charts.

The NiTek Q Trimix uses a Bühlmann ZH-L16 algorithm with modifications for both pre-programmed and user configurable decompression Gradient Factors. During a decompression dive, the NiTek Q provides decompression stop Niteq Q Push Button times and displays time-to-surface based on planned gas switches. The NiTek Q Trimix can also be upgraded via the USB port to support Constant PO2 setpoint diving with all closed-circuit rebreathers.

The NiTek Q Full Trimix version dive computer from Dive Gear Express includes a carrying bag, depth compensating wrist strap, waterproof quick start guide, USB cable and AC charger. For more details about the NiTek Q, click the book icon at left to view the full NiTek Q Computer Users Manual.

Nitrox? Heliox? Helitrox? Triox? Normoxic Trimix? Hypoxic Trimix? Heliair?

Nitrox is a term introduced by Morgan Wells at NOAA to describe mixtures of Nitrogen and Oxygen, usually meaning air that has been enriched with added Oxygen. Although Nitrox may be considered any combination of the two gases, in practice Nitrox is always hyperoxic, meaning it has more oxygen than Air. Common mixtures of Nitrox contain 32% or 36% oxygen. You won't find Nitrox in Webster's Dictionary, but thanks to Dr. Wells many experienced sport divers today are properly trained to use Nitrox to extend their bottom times or decrease the risk of decompression illness.

Heliox is a term that describes a breathing gas mixture containing only Oxygen and Helium. Heliox is primarily used in commercial saturation diving systems. Replacing all the Nitrogen with Helium also eliminates the incapacitating levels of narcosis that would be caused by Nitrogen in very deep diving. The Helium reduces the gas density which makes it noticeably easier to breathe, and Heliox is also more decompression friendly in saturation diving. However, Heliox increases decompression requirements with the bounce dive profiles of SCUBA.

Trimix is a technical SCUBA diving term that describes a breathing gas that consists of any mixture of Oxygen, Helium, and Nitrogen gases. Helium is very expensive, so using it to just dilute the Nitrogen (rather then eliminate it entirely) is a cost effective way to reduce the narcosis to managable levels. For deep diving, the Helium also serves the dual purpose of diluting the Oxygen which reduces the risk of oxygen toxicity. There are some subtle physiological issues associated with using Heliox and some experts believe the Nitrogen in Trimix serves to help attenuate or 'buffer' those effects.

Normoxic Trimix has the same percentage of oxygen as normal oxygen levels in Air. (Although most of us assume Air is 21% oxygen, the Compressed Gas Association says Air can contain from 19% to 23.5% oxygen.) A very common Normoxic Trimix mixture is 21% Oxygen and 35% Helium. However, a normoxic level of oxygen limits dive depths because it becomes very quickly toxic below 200 feet. Deeper diving requires Trimix that contains oxygen levels too low to sustain life at the surface, a condition known a hypoxia.

Hypoxic Trimix, with oxygen levels of 18% or less, is considerably more dangerous than normoxic mixtures. Not only because of the greatly increased depths associated with use of hypoxic breathing gas mixtures, but because the risk of breathing the wrong mixture is greatly increased as well. A common Hypoxic Trimix mixture is 10% oxygen and 50% Helium, sometimes called Heliair because it's a mixture of half Air and half Helium. In addition to being deadly at the surface, Hypoxic Trimix is not a decompression friendly gas for SCUBA diving. Hypoxic Trimix diving thus typically involves carrying several other breathing gases such as an intermediate travel mix and multiple decompression mixes that have specific depth ranges for use. Managing the multiple cylinders and switching to the proper breathing gas at proper time and depth requires extensive training and meticulous procedures in order to be done safely.

Triox is a term used to denote hyperoxic mixtures of Trimix. Like Nitrox the elevated levels of oxygen (and decreased inert gas) in Triox improve the decompression characteristics, but limits the maximum depth. Very recently, divers are beginning to realize there are benefits to using Trimix in the shallower sport diving depths. Training agencies have introduced 'recreational trimix diving' courses that teach the use of hyperoxic Trimix. NAUI has adopted Helitrox as its name for hyperoxic Trimix and particularly a mixture of 26% Oxygen and 17% Helium.

By the way... the Dive Rite NiTek Q can calculate dives that use up to seven of any of these gases, plus a very widely available breathing gas that could be called Normoxic Nitrox but most people know by a much more common name.
