The TransPlate harness is a Dive Rite innovation designed specifically for hard backplates. The TransPlate harness utilizes many features and benefits of the TransPac harness for divers who demand comfort and the perfect fit when using a backplate. The TransPlate transforms as quickly and as easily to accommodate everything from single cylinders to doubles with stage and deco bottles. The adjustable padded shoulder straps cinch for a perfect fit, stay where you set them, and allow easy switching between wetsuit and drysuit. The elegant and simple design of the adjustable shoulder straps don't interfere with the waist straps, meaning the waist D-rings don't move when you adjust the shoulders. The shoulder and waist D-ring positions are adjustable or can be removed entirely, and additional D-rings and buckles can easily be added for special needs. Canister lights, bellows pockets and other accessories can be quickly mounted or removed at the waist belt.

Already have your backplate and air cell? Then all you need to purchase is the TransPlate harness itself. The harness shoulders and waist belt quickly install on any hard backplate. The harness comes complete with shoulder and waist D-rings, but does not include a backplate.

> Backplates

Backplates are available in anodized aluminum, or polished stainless steel. Aluminum backplates are the most popular with freshwater divers and divers using steel tanks. Some divers prefer stainless backplates due to the fact that they are approximately five pounds more negatively buoyant, which helps offset the additional buoyancy of saltwater or aluminum tanks.

The Aluminum and stainless steel backplates are exactly the same shape and size, both are 15.5-inches high and 10.5-inches wide. They are designed with 1-inch and 2-inch slots to accommodate your choice of crotch strap and come with holes along the sides for mounting accessories. The backplates are highly polished with rounded upper corners and include doubles mounting slots that allow easy assembly on doubles without alignment concerns.

The aluminum backplate has an anodized black finish. Compared to raw unfinished aluminum, the durable anodized aluminum finish provides greater corrosion resistance and a better consistency in appearance. The stainless steel backplate is polished and passivated. Passivation treatments improve the surface condition of stainless steel by dissolving iron that has been imbedded in the surface during forming or machining. Passivation, which consists of soaking stainless steel components in a special solution, will dissolve the imbedded iron and restore the original corrosion-resistant surface by forming a thin, transparent oxide film.

Both the aluminum and stainless steel backplates are available as Dive Rite sourced versions, as well as a similar generic version for a small savings.

> QB Weight System by Dive Rite

Designed for use with the Dive Rite TransPac and TransPlate, their QB Weight System consists of a pair of pockets, each with one or two inserts that each hold 8-lbs of block or shot lead that easily releases when the handle is pulled and a holster that stays on the waist belt. Worn vertically or at an angle, the top-loading pockets protects divers from an inadvertent buoyancy event by keeping weight securely in place. Also has a grommet on bottom for rapid drainage. The narrow 16 lb QB Weight System holsters hold one insert that leaves plenty of room on the waist for other accessories. The wider 32 lb QB Weight System holsters holds two inserts to separate the additional weights and keep them from shifting inside the pocket; the 32 lb system is popular choice for drysuit divers.

> Crotch Strap

Used for fastening a harness and backplate securely to a diver's body, one end of the strap is threaded onto the backplate and the other end with a loop is placed on the waist belt webbing. The crotch straps keep the harness in place during water entry. By using a crotch strap, divers can prevent their gear slipping upwards on the body in the water, reducing the likelihood of the tank touching the back of the head during a dive. Crotch Straps include a stainless steel scooter ring for use with diver propulsion vehicles (DPVs). The ring is also a convenient place to temporarily clip off an item to free your hands, such as a lobster snare or camera. The crotch strap is available in continuous and slide release designs with a choice of 1.0-inch, 1.5-inch and 2.0-inch widths. The slide release buckle offers the convenience of an adjustable length at the quick release buckle and allows the loop to be placed on waist belt webbing behind the buckle where it can remain. The continuous webbing crotch strap is preferred by technical divers who use DPVs for extended periods of time due to the added distribution of weight the width provides and the 2.0-inch version includes a neoprene sleeve to protect exposure suit from abrasion.

Lumbar Backplate Pad w/built-in sleeve

Improved for 2010, the Dive Rite Backplate Pad has been redesigned to include a convenient sleeve for lift bags and surface marker tubes. Created for use with hard metal backplates, the Backplate Pad alleviates pokes and prods from the plate into the soft area of the back. It attaches securely to any hard backplate by threading the shoulder straps through webbing loops at the top of the pad. The lower portion of the pad attaches through the crotch strap slot with a webbing loop. A quick release buckle allows the pad to be lifted away from the plate for easy access to bolts when diving double tanks. Open-cell porous design allows the pad to release water and dry quickly, plus it resists compression allowing the pad to maintain its thickness and comfort-providing shape at depth. Quick-dry fabric and drainage holes quickly release water and aid in drying.
