This is not a 'Frankenstein' assembly of various discontinued, off brand, or low quality components, it's an integrated system of current Dive Rite brand products. > Harnesses for Backplates

Backplate Webbing Harnesses are available in Basic and Deluxe styles. The Basic webbing harness is made from a single piece of continuous webbing. The Deluxe webbing harness incorporates a chest strap and shoulder-strap pivot rings that increase comfort. The Deluxe harness is also available with a quick-release on the left shoulder. Both styles include shoulder and waist D-rings (shoulder D-rings are bent at a slight angle for better access), and a stainless steel buckle on the waist band. Both can be fitted with an optional 1-inch or 2-inch crotch strap for stability, and optional neoprene shoulder pads to enhance comfort. Assembly instructions included.

> DR Backplates

Backplates are available in anodized aluminum, or polished stainless steel. Aluminum backplates are the most popular with freshwater divers and divers using steel tanks. Some divers prefer stainless backplates due to the fact that they are approximately five pounds more negatively buoyant, which helps offset the additional buoyancy of saltwater or aluminum tanks.

The Aluminum and stainless steel backplates are exactly the same shape and size, both are 15.5-inches high and 10.5-inches wide. They are designed with 1-inch and 2-inch slots to accommodate your choice of crotch strap and come with holes along the sides for mounting accessories. The backplates are highly polished with rounded upper corners and include doubles mounting slots that allow easy assembly on doubles without alignment concerns.

The aluminum backplate has an anodized black finish. Compared to the natural aluminum finish, the durable anodized aluminum finish provides greater corrosion resistance and a better consistency in appearance. The stainless steel backplate is polished and passivated. Passivation treatments improve the surface condition of stainless steel by dissolving iron that has been imbedded in the surface during forming or machining. Passivation, which consists of soaking stainless steel components in a special solution, will dissolve the imbedded iron and restore the original corrosion-resistant surface by forming a thin, transparent oxide film.

> Single Tank Adapter and Tank Straps

For divers who frequently switch between double tank and single tank rigs, the Single Tank Adapter is a convenient way to attach cam straps to a hard metal backplate that does not have tank band slots. Constructed of marine grade passivated 304 stainless steel and including all stainless hardware consisting of two removable 1-inch attachment bolts on 11-inch centers with holdfasts, washers, lockwashers and wing nuts, along with two rubber pads to protect the tank. Also available as a package that includes two S/S Stamped Cam Buckle Tank Straps.

Tank straps are 36-inches in length to accommodate 7.25-inch or 8-inch tanks and include a marine-grade, stainless steel cam buckle that is strong and low weight. The stainless steel buckle cam bands include a sewn-in, non-slip pad to protect the tank from scratches. Tank straps are priced and sold EACH, if you need a pair order two.

> Crotch Strap

Used for fastening a harness and backplate securely to a diver's body, one end of the strap is threaded onto the backplate and the other end with a loop is placed on the waist belt webbing. The crotch straps keep the harness in place during water entry. By using a crotch strap, divers can prevent their gear slipping upwards on the body in the water, reducing the likelihood of the tank touching the back of the head during a dive. Crotch Straps include a stainless steel scooter ring for use with diver propulsion vehicles (DPVs). The ring is also a convenient place to temporarily clip off an item to free your hands, such as a lobster snare or camera. The 1-inch crotch strap with slide release buckle is preferred by most divers for its general comfort snd offers the convenience of an adjustable length at the quick release buckle and allows the loop to be placed on waist belt webbing behind the buckle where it can remain. The 2-inch continuous webbing crotch strap is preferred by technical divers who use DPVs for extended periods of time due to the added distribution of weight the width provides and includes a neoprene sleeve to protect exposure suit from abrasion.

Lumbar Backplate Pad

The Dive Rite Lumbar Backplate Pad is an option for divers that use a metal backplate in warm water conditions where little or no exposure protection is needed, or anytime more comfort is desired. The 10.5 x 16 inch pad mounts securely on any rigid backplate and features a quick release at the bottom, allowing the pad to be lifted for easy access to the backplate. The open-cell design does not compress due to pressure from the water column, so the pad is comfortable regardless of depth. The padding is also hydro-phobic, and post-dive it dries quickly.
